Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty) in Istanbul, Turkey

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, brings back a healthy and youthful look around the eyes.

Extra fat tissue may accumulate around your eyes and the skin can sag and crease as we age. Due to many reasons, you may look older and more tired, and even lose peripheral vision. [1]

If you are concerned about the appearance of your eyelids, eyelid surgery can be a great option for you.

What will be achieved through eyelid surgery?

Having an idea about what can be achieved through eyelid surgery helps you to navigate whether it is the right operation for you or not.

The first thing you need to know is that eyelid surgery targets the upper and lower eyelid. If you are having problems such as weakened muscles or extra fat tissue in these areas, eyelid surgery can help you get rid of the undesired effects of time and aging. [2]

Lower eyelid surgery

The aging effect can show itself on the lower eyelid way sooner than the upper eyelid. Excess tissue in the nasal, central, and lateral fat bags can cause puffiness, which is often associated with tiredness. Lower blepharoplasty involves removing this excess fat tissue to create a smoother look. The loose skin due to weakened muscles can also be tightened to get rid of the saggy undereye look.

Upper eyelid surgery

Upper blepharoplasty deals with drooping and loose skin on your upper eyelid. This operation tightens the skin between your eyebrows and eyes and removes excess skin to create a more youthful look. Also, tightening the skin removes any obstruction to your vision. [3]

How to qualify for eyelid surgery?

Usually, there are not many limitations to who can get upper or lower eyelid surgery. However, you do need to be in good health and able to stop smoking to be a good candidate for blepharoplasty.

Even though most people who go through eyelid surgery are commonly over 30 to 35 years old, there is no age limit to qualify for this operation. Our surgeons will be looking at the condition of your skin rather than your age.

If you have impaired peripheral vision, eyelid surgery might even be necessary rather than optional.

Procedures

Blepharoplasty procedure

Based on the planned results decided during your consultancy session, your surgeon will mark out the incision lines before the procedure. Depending on your specific condition, a blepharoplasty operation can be done under general or local anaesthesia.

The blepharoplasty procedure starts with creating an incision on the upper or lower crease.

Your surgeon then removes the excess skin and fat precisely to create the desired look.

Removing the right amount of skin and fat is crucial for avoiding any disappointing results. By adjusting the volume of fat tissue, your surgeon will also achieve a more symmetrical look. [4]

As the last step of your eyelid surgery, the incisions will be closed after removing the excess tissue.

Frequently asked questions

The recovery process after an eyelid surgery takes around 3 to 4 weeks. The bandages your surgeon will place can be removed the next day after your surgery. Applying ice packs for the first few days can be a great help in reducing the initial swelling. It is also advisable to ensure you do not bend forward in order to minimize the pressure on your head.

Any stitches will be removed within 1 or 2 weeks. The swelling should be noticeably reduced after 2 weeks and you will likely feel normal enough to go back to your daily activities after about a week of your operation.

However, you should avoid strenuous activities for approximately 4 weeks.

Eyelid surgery may cause mild discomfort. After a day, you should feel perfectly fine and be able to get back to your daily activities. Most patients don’t even feel the need to use painkillers after blepharoplasty.
