What is VASER liposuction?

Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance (VASER) liposuction technique uses powerful ultrasound waves to break up the fat tissue underneath the skin. It’s becoming increasingly popular around the world because less invasive than traditional liposuction. Thus, it provides easier recovery, leads to fewer side effects. [2]

VASER as a versatile surgical tool is used with liposuction. Experienced surgeons believe it trumps all other types of liposuction. It vibrates at a very specific wavelenght or threshold for the bonds between the cells. It benefits from acoustic streaming which helps tease apart their cells from each other and from surrounding tissue.

You can get rid of flabby arms with a successful VASER liposuction procedure. The surgeon will make a small incision under your arm. A thin tube called a cannula will be inserted. A special surgical device is used to absorb the fat. You may be a good candidate if you have stubborn fat deposits in your arms that do not respond to diet or exercise.

Procedure

How does the procedure work?

Surgeons perform VASER liposuction under general anesthesia. They inject a mixture of tumescent fluid or saline solution and an anesthetic agent. The ultrasound probes, which are inserted into the skin, use ultrasound waves to break up the excess fatty tissue.

Your surgeon will make a small incision to insert a cannula into the targeted areas. The cannula will drain the broken down fatty tissue and fluid mixture. Finally, your surgeon will close the incisions and place a garment over the area.

In VASER lipo postoperative care, you will apply compression garments to support the treated areas and reduce swelling. Moreover, you have to attend follow-ups; so your surgeon can monitor your healing and results month by month.

Recovery

Liposuction recovery period

The recovery period after VASER liposuction can take approximately 3 to 6 months. After the surgery, your body might be bruised and swollen. However, these symptoms usually resolve over time.

Some fluid might ooze out of the targeted area for a few days after the surgery. You should carefully wipe those areas with sterilised pads.

After VASER liposuction surgery, you will need to wear a compression garment to support your recovery. Your surgeon might ask you to wear this garment for about 6 weeks.

Make sure that you are gentle with your body during the recovery period and avoid any excessive activities to help your body heal. You should also keep up with a healthy lifestyle to help with the recovery and prolong the results of your liposuction.

Frequently asked questions

As liposuction is a complex surgery, you should prepare for it as you would with any other surgery.

Your surgeon will ask you to stop taking any blood-thinning medications about 2 weeks before the surgery. It is necessary to quit smoking a few weeks before the surgery. You should also avoid drinking alcohol a few days before your surgery.

Our surgeons might also give you some additional instructions to improve your recovery. Make sure you follow them strictly for a safe and effective operation.

Since liposuction surgery is done under general anaesthesia, you won’t be feeling any pain during your surgery.

However, you might feel some discomfort and pain during the first few weeks of your recovery.

Usually, 3 to 4 litres of fat can be removed during liposuction. However, this amount can be increased to nearly 5 litres with mega liposuction surgery.

It is possible to lose 3 to 5 kilograms (approximately 6 to 11 pounds) with liposuction. Usually, surgeons do not recommend or perform liposuction that would lead to more weight loss.

The majority of men and women who undergo liposuction have issues with self-esteem and emotional distress. A very high percentage of patients treated for this procedure are ‘satisfied’ with the results achieved. The procedure is expected to enhance the quality of your life by improving your appearance and boosting your self-esteem and confidence while improving your overall health. [4] [5]

The length of liposuction surgery depends on the target area and the amount of fat that needs to be removed. The duration can vary between 30 minutes and 3 hours.

Even though liposculpture is considered a type of liposuction, there are considerable differences between these two procedures.

In liposculpture, fatty tissue is not only removed but also reshaped to achieve a more sculpted appearance. The fat removed from the patient’s body can be used to give volume to the desired areas of the body.

Unlike liposuction, liposculpture cannot be performed to achieve significant weight loss.

After full recovery, the fat in your treated area (tummy, arms, face, etc.) will disappear completely:

– You can lose a few sizes in your waist.

– The extra layer of fat on your chin will be reduced.

– The sagging in your armpits will be eliminated.

Liposuction is not usually considered a medical necessity, so it is generally not covered by insurance in Turkey. However, it’s a good idea to check with your insurance company to see if it’s covered.
