HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) technology promotes skin tightening and firming by delivering sound waves to the deep layers of the skin, thereby stimulating collagen production. HIFU therapy is a non-surgical procedure for facelifts and facial rejuvenation. HIFU in Turkey is typically performed at Istanbul’s aesthetic clinics. It is performed by doctors specializing in cosmetic surgeries. The cost for a full-face HIFU treatment in Istanbul is a minimum of $350 per session.
HIFU technology delivers focused ultrasound energy directly to the deep tissues underneath the skin (especially the SMAS layer targeted in surgical facelift procedures) without damaging the uppermost layer of the skin, epidermis.
HIFU uses interchangeable cartridges to target three skin depths.
A session begins with a topical anaesthetic cream applied for 15 to 20 minutes.
As the handpiece is systematically guided over the face or neck, it delivers focused ultrasound energy that creates micro-thermal points at each targeted skin depth.
Session duration is 30 to 60 minutes depending on the area covered. While the procedure takes a long time on the neck, chin, and cheeks, it takes much less time around the eyes, eyebrows, and lips.
Most patients describe the sensation as warmth with occasional brief intensity as the energy reaches the deeper layers. It is not painless, but it is manageable. Mild redness resolves within a few hours. There is no bruising, no downtime, and no restrictions after treatment.
HIFU sends focused ultrasound energy to the SMAS layer, the same deep support tissue that surgeons tighten during a face lift. The difference is that HIFU does this with no cuts, no anaesthetic and no down time .
The energy creates controlled points of thermal injury deep within the tissue. The body responds by producing new collagen over the next weeks. This real structural change that takes two to three months to develop and usually lasts twelve to eighteen months.
Both use targeted ultrasound to heat deep tissue and stimulate collagen production. The fundamental difference is precision and direction.
Standard cartridges enable generic HIFU to deliver energy at specific levels. Ultherapy is a branded system that is FDA cleared and has live ultrasound imaging so the clinician can see the skin layers, fat and muscle in actual time.
Ultherapy is more precise but more costly. Standard HIFU is good for mild to moderate laxity and Ultherapy is great for complex anatomy.
HIFU is effective across a wider range of areas than most patients expect:
Face: jawline definition, jowl reduction, cheek lifting, nasolabial fold improvement, brow position
Neck: tightening of loose neck skin, early turkey neck, vertical neck bands
Décolletage: skin laxity and fine lines on the chest and upper breast area
Body: abdomen and upper arms (using deeper cartridges of 8–13 mm designed for thicker tissue)
The face and neck are the most common combination. Treating both in one session maximises the overall lifting effect and is standard practice at Vantage Clinic.
When you come to Istanbul for HIFU treatment, we treat the following areas of your face:
The HIFU procedure does not require surgical intervention: There are no incisions, stitches, or injections.
Since there is no noticeable peeling, scarring, or acne on the skin’s surface, you can continue your daily activities without interruption.
Regardless of skin type, a single treatment session is sufficient. The effects last for about 1 to 1.5 years, depending on skin structure.
Since the changes occur through the skin’s own collagen, they do not result in an unnatural expression.
Istanbul is consistently among the most competitive markets for non-surgical aesthetic treatments, not because standards are lower but because operating costs, clinical overheads, and the broader cost of living are lower than in Western Europe or North America.
For patients travelling to Istanbul, HIFU sessions can be scheduled alongside surgical consultations or other non-surgical treatments, making the trip efficient. The procedure requires no recovery and can be done the day before flying home without any restrictions.

HIFU works best for patients in their thirties to mid-sixties with mild to moderate skin laxity. It is not a replacement for surgery in patients with significant tissue excess or advanced sagging, those cases require a surgical facelift to achieve meaningful improvement.
Good candidates:
Please Note: HIFU is not appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, in the presence of active skin infections, or for patients with pacemakers or certain metal implants in the treatment area.
On the day of treatment expect mild redness and slight swelling, particularly along the jawline and under the chin. This is the result of localised tissue response and resolves within hours. Some patients describe a pleasant temporary firmness immediately after treatment. Do not worry, this is early oedema.
In weeks 1–4, you can expect subtle progressive improvement. Most patients notice it first in photos. The skin looks a little tighter, the jawline a little cleaner.
Weeks 8–12 is when results become clearly visible. Collagen remodelling reaches its peak and the lifting effect is established. HIFU before-and-after comparison at this point accurately reflects what the treatment has achieved.
Results gradually fade in month 12 to 18 as the natural ageing process continues. Repeat treatment at this point maintains the improvement. That’s why some patients choose annual maintenance sessions.
HIFU addresses deep tissue structure. However, it does not address volume loss, surface skin quality, or dynamic wrinkles. For many patients, combining HIFU with other non-surgical treatments produces a more comprehensive result.
Common combinations our team works with:
HIFU + Dermal Fillers — HIFU lifts the structural foundation; fillers restore volume in the cheeks, temples, or around the mouth. The two approaches complement each other without overlap. Discover dermal filler treatments at Vantage Clinic.
HIFU + Botox — Botox addresses dynamic lines (forehead, crow’s feet, frown lines) that HIFU does not treat. The combination covers both structural laxity and muscle-related wrinkles. Find out how Botox treatments are performed at Vantage Clinic.
HIFU + Mesolift — Mesolift injections improve skin hydration, radiance, and surface texture. Combining with HIFU addresses both the deep structural and the surface aesthetic simultaneously. Learn more about Mesolift at Vantage Clinic.
HIFU + Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA) — PLLA is a biostimulator that gradually rebuilds collagen volume over several months. Its effect is complementary to HIFU rather than duplicative. Learn more about PLLA at Vantage Clinic.
HIFU + Hyaluronic Acid Fillers — For patients with hollowing under the eyes or in the mid-face, HA fillers restore volume that HIFU alone cannot address. Read on to learn how you can combine HIFU and HA treatments.
One session is sufficient for the majority of patients with mild to moderate laxity. Patients with more advanced concerns, or who want to maintain results, typically return every twelve to eighteen months.
Immediately after treatment. There are no restrictions on makeup, skincare, or social activity following HIFU.
In many cases, yes. Botox and HIFU can be performed in the same session. Dermal fillers are generally scheduled separately to avoid interference with tissue response. This is assessed individually at consultation.

Non-surgical facial treatments at Vantage Clinic are overseen by our plastic surgery team.
Op. Dr. Gökhan Mersinlioğlu specialises in facial aesthetic surgery with a background in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. His training in facial anatomy, including the SMAS layer that HIFU targets, directly informs how non-surgical lifting treatments are planned and assessed. He has been in private practice focusing on rhinoplasty and facial aesthetics since 2019, with over ten years of experience treating patients from Turkey and internationally.
Op. Dr. Uğur Horoz is a Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery specialist with residency training at Ankara Dışkapı Yıldırım Beyazıt Training and Research Hospital and a visiting research fellowship at Showa University in Japan. He previously held an academic position as Assistant Professor at Istanbul Aydın University Faculty of Medicine. His background in full-spectrum plastic surgery, including body contouring and facial procedures, means HIFU treatments are assessed within the context of a patient’s overall facial anatomy rather than in isolation.
Both surgeons are available for free consultation to assess whether HIFU is the appropriate treatment for your concerns, or whether a different approach would produce better results.
