  • Full-mouth implant surgery takes 2 to 4 hours. If the procedure is performed on a single jaw, it takes an average of 1.5 to 2 hours. However, if both the upper and lower jaws are treated in the same session, it takes about 3 to 4 hours.

Understanding Dental Implants: Components and Materials

Dental implants are actually surgical components that interface with the jawbone to support dental prostheses like bridges, crowns or removable dentures. They’re made up of a titanium post that’s surgically inserted into the jawbone, which acts as a root. Over time, the bone fuses with the implant in a process that’s called osseointegration, which makes it really stable.

Main Components of a Dental Implant:

  • Implant fixture (screw or post): Usually made of titanium or zirconia and inserted into the jawbone.

  • The abutment: A connector that is placed on top of the implant and holds the crown, bridge or denture in place.

  • Crown/prothesis: The visible part that looks and functions like a natural tooth.

Structure of Implant

Key Dental Implant Terms to Know

Fixture (Implant Screw): A titanium-base anchor placed to mimic the natural tooth root structure, which serves as a base for screw-retained restorations. So that  it allows the dentist to securely fix the prosthetic crown directly to the implant. This design prioritizes easy maintenance and long-term stability within the alveolar bone.

Abutment: Think of this as the link between your new implant and your smile. This piece shapes your emergence profile to give your new tooth the appearance of naturally growing out of your gum line. No matter whether we use a prefabricated or custom-milled design, the aim is to get the angle and height just right so your bite alignment feels natural and the final restoration fits your mouth.

Osseointegration: The biological integration process where your jawbone accepts and fuses with a titanium implant. Unlike dentures that rest on the surface, the bone grows directly into the implant, treating it like a real tooth root. This bond is what keeps the implant stable and prevents your jawbone from shrinking over years.

Crown: A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that acts as the final prosthetic component of your implant. Unlike standard crowns that glue onto natural teeth, this is a custom-engineered piece designed to link directly with your titanium root. It is the only part of the system that handles daily occlusal forces (chewing pressure), making it a functional part that restores both your smile’s look and its full biting function.

How does the dental implant procedure work in Turkey?

The dental implant procedure in Turkey goes as follows:

  • To begin receiving dental implants, schedule a free consultation with your dentist.
  • During the consultation, ask about your treatment plan, cost, duration of surgery, how many times you need to visit Turkey, transport and accommodation.
  • The dentist first puts the titanium implant into the bone socket to begin the dental implant procedure. This part takes no more than 2 hours.
  • You will next have to wait for the implant’s surrounding jawbone to heal and bond. Usually, this procedure takes twelve weeks (3 months).
  • When osseointegration occurs, your surgeon places an implant abutment to prepare the implant for your new teeth. They do this using a model of your bite.
  • After your tooth is ready, your dentist will attach it to the implant abutment.
  • The lifespan of dental implants, as well as the crowns or bridge prostheses attached to them, is generally limited to 10–15 years, depending on chewing forces and wear. They need to be replaced or maintained every 10–15 years.

Our dental implants specialist in Turkey perform comfortable dental implant surgeries. In the end, dental implants can improve your chewing and speech, and they’re built to last. They also help to keep your jawbone strong and healthy, keeping bone loss at bay.

What Are the Steps of the Dental Implants Procedure?

The dental implant procedure has some steps to provide a successful placement along with integration of the implants. Every case is different, but here’s a general overview of the process:

Tooth Preparation

1 - Initial Consultation

During the initial consultation, your dentist will analyze your oral health and needs, may take diagnostic images like X-rays and CT scans. After that, you will discuss your goals together, how many implants you want, what is your dream look, etc. At the end, your dentist will develop a custom treatment plan.

Minimally Invasive Procedure

2 - Dental Implant Placement

The dentist places the implants into the jawbone, so they act as tooth roots but artificial. For this step, the dentist may choose local anesthesia to provide a pain-free operation for you. Our dentists only use brands that have been approved by the FDA and have undergone years of clinical testing.

3 - Osseointegration

An implant is a spiral, artificial dental root that replaces a missing tooth. After the implant, usually a titanium-based screw, is surgically placed into the jawbone, a process called osseointegration begins. During osseointegration, the bone gradually fuses with the implant surface, creating a strong and stable foundation.

Abutment Placement

4 - Abutment Placement

After osseointegration, the next step is abutments. These connector pieces will support the final restorations. It serves as a connector between the implant and the crown.

3 - Durability and Stain Resistance

5 - Restorations

Impressions of your teeth are taken to fabricate custom-made dental crowns or prostheses. Using this impression your dentist will prepare implants that blend in with your natural teeth.

versatility

6 - Final Placement

The final restorations are attached to the abutments. Once you've had this done, you'll be able to enjoy your new teeth.

The 48-Hour Nutrition Timeline for Teeth Implant Healing Period

  • 0-6 Hours Post-Op = Opt for fruit juices that are low in sugar – or even sugar-free if possible – such as apple juice. Do not use a straw; sucking is prohibited. The pressure created by sucking can lead to a painful condition known as dry socket. Only sip your drink. Consume clear, light-coloured liquids.
  • 6-24 Hours Post-Op = As the anesthesia fades, you can consume silky texture and body temperature (neither cold nor hot) nutrients like yogurt and lukewarm bone broth.
  • Day 2 = By the second day, your sensitivity will likely shift into a mild, lingering ache. You are no longer restricted to a purely liquid diet; you can now transition to nutrient-dense foods that are gentle on your palate and soft enough to be mashed with the edge of a fork. Poached salmon or a creamy, lemon-sprinkled avocado are both tooth-friendly and highly nourishing choices. Choose soft-textured, boneless fish to ensure a safe experience. Remember that it is still far too early for chewing.
  • Pro-Tip from Vantage Clinic = Try to stay away from very hot foods or spicy dishes containing chillies or peppers for the first week. Think of it this way: excessive heat or spice ‘wakes up’ your blood vessels, which can cause extra swelling or even tiny microbleeds. A nutrition plan tailored to your implant material will assist in achieving better results. The healing schema varies depending on the type of implant, such as titanium or zirconia. For instance, ceramic is less flexible than titanium. That’s why, avoiding crunchy triggers, such as unpopped popcorn kernels, crusty breads, ice cubes, nuts & seeds, and hard candies,  is vital to prevent micro-fractures during the early days.

How do you extend the life of your dental implants from Turkey?

Although dental implants are made to last a lifetime, they are not immune to gum issues. Even the highest-quality implant requires healthy gums to remain secure. Without healthy surrounding tissue, the implant loses its anchor.  We give you a checklist to help prevent things like peri-implantitis, but keep in mind that your overall health matters too. Sometimes, even with perfect brushing, your body’s general health can still affect your gums and the life of your implant.

  1. Biofilm control and mechanical debridement

Although dental implants do not decay, they are susceptible to bacterial biofilms. Unlike natural teeth, implants lack a periodontal ligament, which makes the gum attachment more vulnerable to infection. For this reason, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush with low-abrasive (low RDA) toothpaste to avoid scratching the abutment surface. Focus on the area where the crown meets the gum to disrupt bacteria.

  1. Advanced interproximal hygiene

Standard flossing is often insufficient for complex restorations such as All-on-4 or bridges. Instead, plastic-coated interdental brushes can be used.

Note: Metal-core brushes can cause galvanic corrosion when they come into contact with the titanium fixture. Clinical tests have shown that water flossers are far more effective than traditional string floss at reducing bleeding around implants.

According to The Journal of Clinical Dentistry (Rosema et al.), the group using a water flosser showed up to 50% greater improvement in gum bleeding and gingivitis scores compared to those using traditional dental floss.

  1. Early detection matters

Regular check-ups in Turkey or with your local dentist are not just for cleaning; they are for early detection. For example, radiographic monitoring like annual X-rays are great ways to monitor the osseointegration level and detect early signs of bone loss. During these visits, your dentist will probably use specialized ultrasonic scalers with plastic tips. They used to remove tartar without damaging teeth.
